Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks - previously CRB checks

Payment for DBS clearance service

Detailed Description

PLEASE REMEMBER:  After receiving the DBS certificate, the original copy should be brought to Registry at Newman to be seen and recorded.  If it is not possible for you to visit Newman, please send the DBS certificate by Special Delivery clearly marked FAO: DBS Administrator, Registry and enclose a Special Delivery envelope to enable us to return it safely to you.  It will not be possible to place students in schools or other places where regulated activity is undertaken unless the DBS has been seen by the University.

The Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) update service lets applicants keep their DBS certificates up to date online and allows education providers and employers to check a certificate online.  Applicants can use the https://www.gov.uk/dbs-update-service to keep a certificate up to date.  Registration lasts for 1 year and costs £13 per year (payable by debit or credit card only directly to DBS).  If you are intending to take up a professional career where regular DBS checks will be required, we highly recommend that you should join the Update Service.

What you get:

When you join, you’ll get an online account that lets you:

  • take your certificate from one job to the next

  • give employers permission to check your certificate online, and see who has checked it

  • add or remove a certificate

See detailed guidance for applicants from https://www.gov.uk/dbs-update-service.
