Learning to be Literate by Professor Margaret M Clark

Description
A new book, by Margaret M Clark published on 21st May 2014, provides an analysis of key research on literacy over the past fifty years.
Detailed Description
‘’All except the first and last chapters are adaptations of previously published articles, chapters in books or publications of conference proceedings of mine between 1972 and 2014. The book is in five sections with the scene set in each section so that readers can if they wish, concentrate on specific sections.’’ Margaret Clark, Visiting Professor, Newman University
In her determination to ensure that the book was in print as soon as possible Margaret decided for the first time to self-publish, an exciting but somewhat stressful experience. In this venture she was supported by the ELearning Department at Newman University, advice from The Society of Authors and Witley Press Ltd, the printer. Not only has a new book been launched, but also a new publisher, Glendale Education, with ten ISBN numbers! The aim of the seminar is to share the experience of self-publishing with colleagues who may be considering such an enterprise themselves or who may be tempted to do so.
“This important book, which draws together Margaret Clark’s thinking, is a reminder that rigorous research is essential for an informed view about how to best support children’s literacy development. Despite the complexity of learning to be literate, with her customary clarity, Clark elegantly explores policy and practice, and children’s experience, struggles and accomplishments.”
Eve Bearne, a Past President of UKLA.
